What is GKIDS?
We are a company dedicated to changing the perception of entertainment for kids.
Where does the GKIDS name come from?
GKIDS is a condensed version of our former name, "Guerrilla Kids," which highlighted our revolutionary mission within kids media. It does not stand for "grandkids," as Google likes to suggest.
What is the relationship between GKIDS and the New York International Children's Film Festival?
GKIDS has produced the Festival since 1997, and our company's founder, Eric Beckman, continues as co-director of the annual Festival. GKIDS has now split off to focus on new media outlets, including online, in theaters and DVD, for some of the great films we've come across while programming the Festival. The New York Int'l Children's Film Festival is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to putting on the annual NYC event. GKIDS still helps with marketing and press for the annual event, but the two organizations are very much distinct.
How do I submit films to GKIDS.TV?
We would be happy to consider your film for our Website. Because we carefully curate our content for quality, your film will have the opportunity to escape the clutter and get appreciated by young film fans. We are working on the proper uploading technology for direct submissions. Until then, you can send YouTube links to Dave or send us a DVD through snail mail. Please know that if you send a YouTube link and we love your film, be prepared to send a high-quality digital file, DVD or Beta. Thanks for considering our site for your movie!
Help! I can't comment on the videos!
There may be a few different reasons this is happening. First, we require users to register for an account at GKIDS.TV in order to comment on the videos. If you haven't registered and logged on to your account, you will be prompted to do so and will not be able to comment. After submitting a comment, you will also get a friendly notice saying it will be posted after it is reviewed by our staff. This in order to keep our community family friendly and compliant with the safety measures required by COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). We try to review and post all comments within several hours, but you will not see your comment posted until then.
Lastly, if you have an account but can't seem to stay logged in, you should make sure that "cookies" are enabled in your browser's settings. Click here for more information on cookies.
My account was deleted or deactivated. Why did you do this?
Whenever our administrators close an account, we will email the contact address on file notifying the user of the account closing, and the reason why. If you didn't receive this email, please contact Dave, but also try checking your "Junk" folder to be sure. We close accounts for violating our Terms of Service, this includes repeatedly submitting comments with offensive language or hate speech, but far more often, it is because the user created a screen name that gives away personally identifiable information (not allowed under COPPA guidelines). Please do not register for a screen name that includes an email address, school name, phone number or any other identifiable contact information! We will contact users who do so alerting them of the problem and telling them how they can easily fix their account status.
I've found an error on the Website. Can you fix it?
Hopefully, but first we have to know what the problem is! Email Dave to tell us what the error is, where you found it and (if it's a tech thing) what Internet browser you are using. Feel free to send in grammar/spelling errors as well. We want our site to be perfect.
I want to invest in your company. Is this a good idea?
Definitely! GKIDS is an exciting new kids media brand that offers ripe opportunities for advertising, sponsorship or investment. Please email Eric for more information.
Does GKIDS offer internships?
Yes! We are always on the lookout for tech-savvy students with an interest in film or kids media. If you are in New York City and are looking for an unpaid internship for school credit, email us! Interns can help with theatrical marketing, film booking, Website programming and maintenance, online business and more!
What is the ideal browser for the best GKIDS.TV experience?
We recommend Mozilla Firefox for its safety, speed and features. We naturally try to make sure the Website looks great on every browser, but once you've got tabbed browsing, how can you go back?
Are you on Facebook or Twitter?
We're on both! Feel free to friend us and add nice comments on our Facebook Page and/or Follow us on Twitter.
Are donations to the Festival tax-deductible?
As a registered 501(c)(3) non profit organization, charitable contributions to the New York Int'l Children's Film Festival are tax-deductible. NYICFF does not offer professional advice, so please also seek the opinion of an accounting professional. We thank you for your interest; the Festival would not be financially possible without the help of state and arts foundation grants, and our wonderful individual and corporate donors.
How do I submit films to be considered for the NY Int'l Children's Film Festival?
However, the Festival programs film events year round and always accepts submissions for consideration. The Festival's official site offers a mailing list for deadlines as well.
How do I volunteer or intern with the Festival?
The New York Int'l Children's Film Festival relies on year-round interns and volunteers to help put on such a large event. Students interested in an unpaid internship for school credit during the spring, summer or fall semesters should contact Jennifer with cover letter and resume. Volunteers interested in helping during the Festival in late February and March should also contact Jennifer to express interest and share any relevant experience.
Where can I buy NYICFF shirts or other clothing items?
Each year we offer exclusive NYICFF shirts at the Festival, so new shirts and other clothing items will be available at the 2012 Festival. There will soon be a GKIDS Store page on the GKIDS.TV website, where you can buy shirts from past Festival years.
Where can I buy NYICFF posters, banners and promotional items from past years?
There will soon be a GKIDS Store page on the GKIDS.TV website, where you can buy posters, large vinyl banners and other promotional items from past years of the New York Int'l Children's Film Festival. New posters, pens and items will be available at NYICFF 2012.
What if my question wasn't answered here?
Good question! Please email Dave and he can probably help you out.
